[E]Groom : 9th July 2009Venue : Bewleys Cafe Theatre Time : 8.30pm Cost : E10 Booking : bewleysbookings@gmail.com Days of week : Thursday Reviews : Groom are a pop band from Dublin who have been self-releasing acclaimed records for some four years now. Lauded by MP3Hugger as "Hardcore Twee...it’s not just noticeable in the sharp edges in the music; the lyrical themes frequently brush with the darkside.", the band were described to "offer up something sadly missing on the Dublin scene." The latest album, "At the Natural History Museum", released on US label Tight Ship Records, is a pop record about death, filtered through the observations of six fictional characters. It explores themes of despair, questions on eternity, nightmares, suicide, loneliness, regret, and final acceptance—all performed with disarming cheerfulness and black humour in Groom’s signature pastoral pop style. Described by entertainment.ie as containing "songs that sound like they were plucked from the bosom of the early '90s indiepop scene" (4 stars), the record was produced by Chicago musician/artist, Barry Phipps.

About the event : Is living your life, like you’re in an Emily Brontie novel always a bad thing? Even if you are in your late twenties, live in London and don’t own a bonnet.
Drama, passion, the odd wife locked in an attic, Gráinne really thought life would be more like that and is now slowly realising that isn’t the case...
and she’s angry, very angry. Modern life is as mediocre as hell and she isn’t going to take it anymore.
Join Gráinne as she argues that we could all do with a bit more excitement 19th century style in these glum, credit crunch days.
Sure there was a bit of slavery, no women’s rights and the odd bit of cholera but whatever- talk to the glove ‘cause the bonnet isn’t listening...
Why not write a love letter, discover you have a mortal enemy, inherit money in a dubious manner, isn’t that much more fun than bloody Twitter.
Watch as she tries to find a third way between the forced marriages to save your family home and getting fingered in nightclubs. Hear her debate on whether a lifelong obsession with all things Austen and Bronte, is a help or is she just building herself for inevitable disappointment?
Gráinne will tackle all these conundrums asking what she always asks in times of difficulty- what would Jane Eyre do?
