IN VITRO

By Aoife O'Connor

Sam sings at weddings, plays x-box, and loves multicoloured Christmas lights. Lily teaches, goes to dinner parties and her lights are always white. Sam and Lily are perfect for each other, aren't they?

Having fallen in love, moved in together and even sorted a mortgage, they decide to start a family. And that's when the trouble begins...

Examining the thorny relationship between fertility and finances, this funny and insightful play written by Aoife O’Connor and directed by Katie O’Halloran charts a same-sex couple's journey to parenthood with humour and empathy.

From the author, Aoife O’Connor: Going through IVF with my wife revealed that Ireland’s hard-won marriage equality still doesn’t extend to queer parents or their children. That realisation—and the invisibility of this discrimination—compelled me to write this play in the hope of building momentum for change.

On Sat 7th there will be a post-show talkback with the playwright Aoife O'Connor and CEO of Equality for Children, Ranae Von Meding which will reflect on the themes of the play and how Ireland’s existing laws shape the experiences of queer families.

Duration: 45 minutes
