GET INVOLVED

Bewley's Café Theatre premiere and platform a number of new plays every year. We are a leading presenter of new dramatic writing in Irish Theatre. We aim to be a vital cog in the creation and revival of new plays in Ireland and to be a stepping stone to larger stages.

NEW WORK

Bewley's Café Theatre is a curated venue, where all lunchtime productions are part of a programme of work selected by the Artistic Director. The plays are always one-acts suitable for our lunchtime slot that we feel will delight, entertain, provoke and astonish our audience. Every year we present a balance of new writing and adaptations from established writers alongside platforming emerging artists and interrogating classic work. We are constantly looking to engage with theatre makers who are exploring what is theatrically possible in an hour or less.

NEW WRITERS

We want to encourage new writers to approach established directors and actors to read their work and then to apply to Bewley's Café Theatre as a team by emailing bewleyscafetheatre@gmail.com

We are looking to harness the talent and depth of Ireland's freelance theatre community. You can look at our website's archive of past productions to see what directors and actors have worked with us before. Information is also available at www.irishplayography.com where all new Irish plays are listed along with their original casts and creative teams.

PERCOLATE

PERCOLATE 2

We are delighted to announce that we are again seeking applications from new writers for PERCOLATE 2

In 2020, we instigated a new development initiative for playwrights called PERCOLATE.

Our ambition is to raise the level of discussion and engagement with dramatic writing in Ireland and to be a resource for the wider theatre community.

After an open call we selected 6 writers to receive ongoing support over an extended period of time (two years) from a panel of artistic advisors with a variety of experience and expertise.

We received 166 applications. We recognise there is a great appetite for this kind of support. We hope to grow and evolve Percolate in the coming years so that we can best serve Irish dramatic writing into the future.

The Percolate 1 Writers:Terri Donovan, Oisín Kearney & Michael Patrick, Jennifer Laverty, Katie McCann, Megan McDonnell and Madi O'Carroll.

The Percolate 1 Panel: Brenna Clarke, Veronica Coburn, Jeda De Bri, Caitríona Ní Mhurchú, Eugene O'Brien and Daniel Reardon along with the Bewley's Café Theatre team: David Horan, Iseult Golden and Colm Maher.

PERCOLATE TALKS

We are also presenting a series of Percolate Talks, free public interviews with established writers and theatre makers about their craft. In April 2021, Eugene O'Brien interviewed Mark O'Halloran and Veronica Coburn interviewed Louise Lowe. The Percolate Talks are ongoing so please follow our social media channels to find information on upcoming events.
